Superhero Stamp: Find Your Inner Hero!
Hey guys and gals! :) Newbie with an app.
xx I made a promise… xx
Occupation (And do you like it? What would you like to do?): I’m a student - photojournalism major with the eventual intent to go to med school. I sorta like it, but I’m not very cut out for college in the sense that I’d rather be traveling around the world, finding every beach, ocean and sunset I can, seeing things like Petra and K2 and everything in between. I do like the taking photos/art part a whole lot, though.
Astrological sign (And do you think it applies?): Scorpio. I don’t know a lot about what the sign means, only because I never really got into astrological stuff, but from what I’ve been told it’s mainly being hotheaded, stubborn and willful to a fault, which yeah, would be me.
xx You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry… xx
Likes: Reading, writing, being creative in general, classical music, action movies, history, photography, classics (literature), being political, clothes, shoes, medical sciences, libraries, traveling, fast/gorgeous cars, the ocean, mountains, big cities.
Dislikes: Chick flicks, cold weather, being in a landlocked state, idiots and bigots, people who only see things as their way or the highway, those who refuse to help others, bad writing in comics, Republicans (although that is kinda a blanket statement.)
Hobbies: Photography, equestrian activities, running.
Talents: I’m a pretty good artist (I’ve been studying fine arts for 14 years in one way or another), I can read just about anything, regardless of writing level or subject (and I’m a fast reader), horseback riding, things to do with graphic design. Does being a biology nerd count? (I’m a freshman in college, and though I’m not taking it right now, I’m at a third year level. My most learned areas are human physiology, microbiology and evolutionary bio.)
Strengths: I’m a leader, I stick by my morals and ideals, I’m rather helpful and if someone tells me I need to get something done, or they need me to do something for them, and I know it’s necessary and/or the right thing to do, I’ll do it immediately, and I’m very loyal to my friends.
Weaknesses: The aforementioned incredible stubbornness, I get angry really easily, and any time something breaks and I can’t fix it I get very annoyed. Plus, any time I’m pissed I shut people out and refuse help. I tend to snap judge people, too. (Workin’ on that one!)
What makes you the most…
Happy?: The ocean, wandering around big cities and just enjoying the life they radiate.
Sad?: Being cooped up somewhere (a house, classroom) for long periods of time. (AKA: My 4.5 hour long Visual Design class is massively depressing and can bite me.)
Angry?: When someone who knows nothing about what they’re talking about and has the wrong answer refuses to back down.
Silly/stupid?: My friends, haha.
Uncomfortable?: Not a lot of things make me uncomfortable, I’m a water-off-a-duck’s-back sort of person in that respect, but PDA squicks me for some reason.
xx With great power… xx
What’s your favorite/ideal superpower? Why?: Having a supercomputer in my head/Technopathy. I don’t really have a why besides the fact that I’d love to be able to figure everything out about a fight/situation/equation in a matter of seconds. Plus, who wouldn’t want to be able to talk to their computer? For me it’s an information thing, too. I read the encyclopedia for fun, no joke. Being able to download that all into my brain in a matter of seconds would be beyond incredible. (I’d probably have to be pretty highly trained in hand-to-hand for that power to work on a street level. Otherwise I’d just end up as mission control for a team.)
Who’s your favorite hero? Why?: I’ve got two, actually. Captain America, first off, because I love the history he brings as a character and his propensity to make really awesome speeches and being this unwavering, powerful figure when everything’s gone topsy-turvy. He’s incredibly strong, not only physically, but also mentally, and I admire him immensely for that.
Second one is the Midnighter because I adore his powers and I’m a sucker for anti-heroes/badasses. He ripped a guy’s spine out of his body once. If that’s not BA, I don’t know what is. Plus, he totally loves his job. When you’ve got an anti-hero who’s going to be brooding and emo the whole time, they’re not nearly as much fun. Midnighter, on the other hand? Goes into battle with an axe-crazy grin.
It’s okay, lots of us have fictional crushes. Do you have one? Who is it, and why are you so sweet on them?: Warren Ellis’ version of Elsa Bloodstone. Because she’s snarky and British and can beat the snot out of you with only a guitar case and a shovel. Plus, she knows shit about monsters. It’d hit it.
Also, I will always have a special place in my heart for Iceman from Top Gun.
Is there anyone you really admire? Who and why?: Richard Avedon. The man had some serious madass talent, and his photography may be some of my favorite in the whole world. The guy did some prints that were over 3 feet tall, which is just wholly amazing. I could wax poetically for hours on his use of black and white, emotions, and a million other things. I want to be him when I grown up, haha.
Also, for a comics answer, Captain America, see my answer above for why.
Would you use your powers strictly for business… or would you find more- let’s just say creative- uses for them?: I’d use them obviously for business, but I’d totally have more creative uses for them. I’d probably end up doing shit like running my friends computers remotely. With my brain. From five states away. And figuring out if Area 51 really does have aliens.
What would your costume look like?: Because I am a nerd, I actually designed a costume once. This would be it. The shirt is totally impractical, and I’d probably need a mask, but I couldn’t settle on a design for one. My favorite part? The kick-your-ass-into-next-Tuesday curbstompin’ boots.
What would your arch nemesis be like?: I’m all for evil cyborgs/robots who like to make long speeches and laugh in a rather evil way. Old school, man. Like, Doom and Ultron old school.
Would be a part of a team? Do you have a certain one in mind?: I’d be someone a la Batman: probably part of a team, but only part time, spending the rest of my time operating alone. (Or, like I said earlier, if I wasn’t so hot in hand-to-hand, I’d be mission control for a team.)
xx Then you know, justice has two sides… xx
Superman or Batman?: Batman. He’s the one who got me into comics originally as a wee lassie.
Captain America or Iron Man?: Cap. Not so much to do with the SHRA/Civil War, but just because I like him better as a character. I do like Iron Man too, though, when he’s being written correctly.
Brawn or beauty?: Beauty. Not opposed to brawn, though.
Leader or follower?: Leader, hands down.
Shy or outgoing?: Outgoing. I’m kind of stoic/an individual and I don’t need people around constantly (I do spend a decent chunk of my time alone) but that’s not from being shy.
Black or white?: Grey. I am in no way a black/white person.
Meat or vegetables?: Veggies, although I’m not a vegetarian, I just like them better.
Secrets or lies?: On the fence about this one. Could go either way, depending on the situation.
Courage or wisdom?: Hard one… I’d say that to have real courage you need wisdom, and when you acquire wisdom you gain courage. If that makes sense.
Forgiveness or revenge?: Depends totally and utterly on the situation. Although I’m way more vengeful than forgiving.
Cruel or kind?: Again, totally on the situation. Unfortunately though, cruel is the currency of our modern world and more situations demand it.
Optimistic or pessimistic?: Pessimistic, but in a happy way. “Oh look, the glass is half empty. But wow, this is a really gorgeous glass!”
Serious or silly?: Serious. Although silly does have it’s time and place, every once and a while.
xx With you, it’s just a gamble… xx
If someone begged you to kill them, would you do it?: No. If someone’s going to take their own life, they’re going to have to be the one to do it.
You meet an alternate universe version of yourself. How do you react?: I’d probably be totally annoyed, haha. I think meeting me face to face would make me realize all my character flaws even more than I normally do, so that would just aggravate me. (And then I’d go home and sulk on the couch and figure out if I like myself this way or if I’m going to change.)
Apocalypse time. What do you do first?: I get my best friends and we go chill on a beach, surf, do whatever. We’d probably end up staying there, too. I’m a fairly chill person. (Native Californian right here.)
Lex Luthor is having lunch just a couple yards away from you. What do you do (if anything)?: Eh, nothing. I’d probably be more interested in my food.
Your best friend has been badly disfigured and rendered mentally unstable (á la Harvey Dent). He/she is about to kill someone! What do you do??: Stop them, or at least try my hardest to. I’ve been up against a lot of friends who are very emotionally set in something, and unfortunately, emotions run stronger than logic sometimes. If I had to rip the crowbar/gun/bat with rusty nails/etc. out of their hands though, I would
If you could only save one of these people, who would you save? Please explain your answer:
[ ] The ten-year-old pancreatic cancer patient (note: this type of cancer only has a 95% survival rate five years after diagnosis)
[ ] The kind old man
[ ] The alcoholic pregnant woman
[ ] The single father who gambled away his son’s college/trust/savings fund
[ x ] The eighteen-year-old prisoner (note: he would be released)
Ok, this was a hard one. It came down to the prisoner or the pregnant woman, and I decided on the kid because I’m hoping, because he’s being released, that he hasn’t killed or rapped anyone, so he does have a chance at reform and hopefully being a functioning member of society. Also, the woman is endangering her unborn child by drinking, so that kind of put me off, and the 18-year-old has a full life ahead of him, I would hope.
Which sin are you most guilty of?:
[ x ] Pride
[ ] Envy
[ x ] Lust (yeah, it’s a tie.)
[ ] Gluttony
[ ] Wrath
[ ] Sloth
[ ] Greed
(Although, to quote Mal in Serenity, “Ah hell, I’m a fan of all seven.”)
Three favorite quotes:
“That’s our job, to strap rockets onto everything.” (Mythbusters, don’t remember if Jamie or Adam said it, but that’s more of an Adam thing to say, so I’m guessing it’s from him.)
“Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself.” (Unknown)
“Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - No, you move.” (From Captain America at one point during Civil War, although I’ve heard that it originated somewhere else. Either way, I adore it.)
